Niamey (Niger), Niger Police has seized 200 kg cocaine from a local mayor's official truck.

The mayor and his driver, who were both in the vehicle at the time, were arrested after the discovery of the 199 bricks, thought to be worth some USD 8.7 million, Metro newspaper reported on Monday.

The police sources said the duo were stopped at a checkpoint on a road leading out of the desert trading hub of Agadez on Sunday.
