Prince Andrew's lawyers demand jury trial

January 27, 2022 09:43 AM

London,

Lawyers representing Britain's Prince Andrew have written to a US judge demanding a jury trial in a civil lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre who has accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager, BBC reported on Thursday. Giuffre, 38, has alleged that Prince Andrew allegedly assaulted her sexually her when she was a teenager at the homes of late Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The Duke of York has consistently denied all these allegations against him. Meanwhile, this latest move is being described as a "PR move", because Ms Giuffre had already asked for a jury trial.

Lisa Bloom, who is representing several of Maxwell's and Epstein's accusers, said that Prince Andrew's request was "meaningless" as it was Ms Giuffre's constitutional right to have a jury trial if she asked for one. Prince Andrew's legal team have submitted a number of reasons why they believe the case should be dismissed, one of which they asked the court to consider was the issue of consent.
