DC calls upon youth to exercise their right to franchise wisely on poll day

Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today called upon youngsters to wisely exercise their right to franchise to further strengthen the ethos of democracy. Addressing a gathering here at HMV college on the occasion of 12th National Voters' day, the DC said that through massive participation in the voting process, a progressive could be formed which would further take the nation at a higher growth trajectory. He also threw light on the significance of National Voters' Day while saying that only judicious exercise of voting rights would be the foundation stone of prosperous India.

The deputy commissioner released the Punjabi Song Voter Jugni prepared with the help of the students of HMV college Jalandhar besides launching the logo of SVEEP Jalandhar. He also felicitated SDM Phillaur Amarinder Singh Malli, BLO Manju Bala, and SVEEP nodal officer Surjit Lal for outstanding performance under SVEEP activities while lauding the efforts of students for creating awareness among youngsters towards enrollment as voters. Meanwhile, the DC administered the oath of ethical voting to gathering and handed over EPIC cards to first time voters as a gesture to motivate them to exercise their voting right judiciously. He stated that with a view to create awareness among youth toward voting, an online poster making and essay writing competition is also being organized in which participants could send their entries by February 6, 2022.

He also mentioned that the poster winning the competition would be painted at prominent places in the city and become a part of our SVEEP activities. Youth theater group played a Nukkar Natak during the event to sensitize people on the right to vote. On the occasion Assistant Commissioner Ojaswi Alankar, Election Tehsildar Sukhdev Singh, Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen, and others were also present.
