Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner holds meeting with Political parties for rationalisation of polling booths

Rupnagar: The Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mrs Sonali Giri today held a meeting with the representatives of the political parties for briefing them about the rationalisation of polling booths here at Deputy Commissioner Office. Deputy Commissioner made it clear that the new booths have been made as per guidelines of the Election Commission of India as no polling booth can be more than 1200 voters.

Mrs Sonali Giri said that earlier about 640 polling booths were in the district and now this number increases to 693. She said that new 53 extra polling booths have been established in the Rupnagar district, which includes 13 in Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency, 23 in Rupnagar Constituency and 17 in Sri Chamkaur Sahib Constituency. She further added that after reviewing third wave of Covid situation in the month of November and if the need arises the polling booth voter limit would be reduced to one thousand. 'More new polling booths would be made if the situation demands due to covid', added Sonali Giri.

              She also made it clear that all guidelines regarding Covid issued by the Government of India and Punjab Government would be followed during the 2022 Vidhan Sabha polls.

            Apart from the representatives of the political parties of Congress, BSP, AAP, SAD the election officials Mr. Avtar Singh Election Tehsildar, Rajesh Kumar Election Kanoongo and Palvinder Singh Election kanoongo participated in the meeting.
