High Powered Committee headed by Adviser to Administrator approves AMRUT projects

Chandigarh: Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh reviewed the plans under the AMRUT scheme in a meeting of State level High Powered Steering Committee (SHPSC) held here today which was attended by Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Govt., . Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC, and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration and MCC.

During the meeting, various projects under AMRUT were discussed at length including strengthening of tertiary treated water supply system and laying of tertiary treated water lines in left out areas to supply TT water in the city.

It was discussed that the city beautiful has a large number of open spaces, parks, gardens and houses with big lawns where water is required for irrigation.

At present 680 parks and green belts are irrigated through TT water and after laying of these lines , all 1800 parks will be irrigated through TT water.

The project was discussed in detail, designed to cover the left-out areas of the city by laying of new lines and creation of infrastructure like reservoirs, pumps and electrical systems, especially from Sector 47 to 63, villages recently transferred to MCC and left out pockets of Sectors where network exists.


The SHPC accorded administrative approval for strengthening TT water supply system in city at an estimated cost of Rs. 9725 lacs from AMRUT 2.0.

During the meeting, strengthening of sewerage network in Chandigarh was also discussed to ease out the excessive sewer load on trunk sewer carrying sewerage of southern sectors, an additional sewer line has been approved to connect trunk sewer of sector 35 with trunk sewer located at sector 44, Chandigarh near village Burail at an estimated cost of Rs. 235 lacs from AMRUT 2.0.

The committee also discussed and approved the upgradation of Kajauli Water works sand rehabilitation of rising main from Kajauli water works to water works at sector 39.

During the meeting it was discussed that in a recent survey of all the phases it has been established that additional components of Phase III and Phase IV also need to be replaced.

The committee accorded approval for the replacement of machinery in various phases of Kajauli Water Works to the tune of Rs. 2714.99 Lacs from AMRUT 2.0 under Water Supply 24 x 7 component.
