Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday lauded a disruption free proceedings for the whole day in the House on Wednesday and urged the MPs to let that spirit prevail for the remaining part of this Budget session. "After a long time, the Rajya Sabha witnessed disruption-free proceedings yesterday. It was a delight to watch quality debates on the Motion of Thanks to the President's speech. The debates were marked by effective assertion of achievements by the ruling party members and (challenged) by opposition members," he said. Naidu made these observations as the proceedings began in the House on Thursday.

"This is the advantage of a smooth functioning of the House. I hope this spirit will continue to prevail for the remaining part of the session and for future as well," he added. The last normal disruption-free sitting in the Rajya Sabha took place on March 19, 2021 during the Budget session. The sitting on December 13, 2021 was also disruption free but it was a Private Members' day, which normally remains free from disruptions. The last disruption-free full session of the Rajya Sabha was the 216th session in June 2009 when Ministers of UPA-II government were introduced in the House, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said in a press note.
