Aurangabad, May 24
The Marathwada region of Maharashtra registered 3,196 Covid-19 cases and 102 fatalities during the past 24 hours, informed health authorities on Monday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Latur district was worst-affected as it recorded 324 new cases and 24 deaths, followed by Beed which had 962 cases and 23 deaths, Aurangabad had 377 new cases and 23 deaths, Osmanabad recorded 392 cases and 12 deaths, Parbhani had 540 cases and eight deaths, Nanded registered 103 cases and seven deaths, Jalna 417 cases and four deaths and Hingoli registered 91 cases and one death.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 26,672 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, taking the total number of infections to 55,79,897.
The state also registered 594 more deaths, taking the death toll to 88,620. Meanwhile, a record 29,177 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 51,40,272. The state's recovery rate currently stands at 92.12 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.59 per cent.
At present, there are 3,48,395 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
In view of the rising number of cases, strict restrictions have been extended up to May 31.
