Robber arrested after brief chase in northeast Delhi

New Delhi, A 45-year-old man, a member of Irani gang, was arrested for allegedly committing robbery from a MCD employee inside a Bank in Yamuna Vihar of north east Delhi, the police said on Sunday.

According to the police, on September 3 around 11 am, an employee of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) withdrew Rs 30000 from the Punjab National Bank at Yamuna Vihar. While she was counting the money inside the bank, two men approached her and asked to handover the money to them for counting, she resisted but one of them snatched the cash from her hand and started counting, after some time he returned the amount to her but she suspected, that the cash was less in quantity and raised the alarm, on which duo pushed her and fled.
But she started running after them by shouting which was noticed by a police patrolling member, he gave chase and apprehended one of them with the help of bank guard.
During the search Rs 18000 cash was recovered from his possession. Then a case was registered with Bhajanpura police station and investigation was taken up.
The accused, identified as Jakar Garib Shah Irani, hails Ahmadnagar of Maharashtra, gave some inputs regarding his associate. Acting on this information, a raid was conducted at the address of a hotel given by the accused but his associate was not found there, said Sanjay Kumar Sain, DCP, northeast Delhi.
