New Delhi, A suicide bomber who was accused of simultaneously killing nearly 200 people, including 13 American soldiers in the August bombing of the Kabul airport, has been identified as a suspected Afghan terrorist arrested in India five years ago, officials said here on Sunday.

Police and security forces across the country have been put on 'alert mode' after the report, sources said. The alleged bomber had travelled to India to carry out blasts and was deported to Afghanistan after being arrested.

A senior police official said, “Police always hold routine meeting regarding security issues. We always keep track of suspects.”

“We put our forces on alert to tackle any such situation,” said a senior official.

The official said Delhi Police will take appropriate action depending on inputs provided by intelligence agencies.

"Tight security and monitoring is being maintained at all sensitive places, including airports, railway stations, metro stations, but whenever such reports come, vigilance is further increased," the official said.

"Police has succeeded in arresting several suspected terrorists and their aides in the recent past. Certainly such efforts will continue. Our intelligence and security forces have been able to tackle terror attacks," the official said.

The Islamic State Korasan Province (ISKP), in the 20th edition of its propaganda magazine, has reportedly claimed that 250 people, including 13 US Marines, were killed by Abdul Rahman al-Loghari, a suicide bomber in Kabul.

Abdul Rehman was arrested in India five years ago during a covert operation. He had come here to target several places but was caught by Indian security agencies and later extradited to Afghanistan, where he was jailed.

During the power shift in Afghanistan, he managed to get out of jail along with many other dreaded terrorists.
