September 28, 2021 12:22 PM

Washington, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman will be visiting India on October 6 and 7 for a series of bilateral meetings and also address the India Ideas Summit, the State Department said on Monday.

Sherman will be in New Delhi on October 6 for a series of bilateral meetings, civil society events, and the India Ideas Summit, which is being organised by the US-India Business Council (USIBC).

She will travel to Mumbai on October 7, for engagements with business and civil society.

Her India visit comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit and his bilateral talks with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Both President Biden and Prime Minister Modi said the India-US relationship is set to get stronger and closer.

She will visit Islamabad on October 7-8 to meet with senior officials.
After CIA chief Bill Burns, she will be one of the first high-level officials under President Joe Biden to visit Pakistan.

Earlier this month, the CIA chief had visited Islamabad. He had also visited New Delhi during this trip.

President Biden has not yet spoken with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan since the beginning of his presidency.
