Department of Telecommunications, Himachal Pradesh LSA Honors Sanchar Mitras with Certificates of Recognition

Shimla: The Additional Director General TelecomHimachal Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA), presented Certificates of Recognition to student volunteers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi) for their outstanding contributions under the Sanchar Mitra Scheme.

 

Launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Sanchar Mitra Scheme is a citizen-centric initiative aimed at empowering citizens by spreading awareness about telecom securityand promoting key digital initiatives of the Government of India. By engaging students as outreach ambassadors, the program created a vital connection between the DoT and the public.

 

As part of this initiative, three students from IIT Mandi were selected in March 2024 to serve as Sanchar Mitras for a one-year term, which concluded in February 2025. The selected volunteers were:

The Sanchar Mitras conducted the awareness campaigns aimed at educating citizens on telecom services and safety practices. Their outreach efforts focused on the following key areas:

 

Sanchar Saathi Portal Awareness – Educating users on how to report lost or stolen mobile phones, block or deactivate SIM cards, verify mobile numbers registered under their name, and report suspicious or international scam calls.

 

Protection Against Digital Fraud – Spreading awareness about digital threats such as OTP scams, phishing, fake mobile applications, and digital arrest frauds, and helping citizens recognize and avoid such risks.

 

The DoT also encourages citizens to explore the Sanchar Saathi Portal (https://sancharsaathi.gov.in), a user-friendly platform that offers essential services including:

  • Reporting fraud calls
  • Checking active mobile connections under one’s name
  • Blocking lost or stolen mobile handsets
  • Identifying internet service providers in a given area
  • Reporting instances where international calls are received with spoofed local numbers
