Shimla: The spirit of endurance, courage, and brotherhood was on full display as students of Auckland House School for Boys took on the formidable trails of the 12th edition of MTB Shimla, organized by HASTPA (Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association) from May 16 to 18, 2025.

This year’s MTB race, spread across two stages and covering a total of 120 km with an elevation gain of 3,000 meters, tested not just physical strength but the mental tenacity of every rider. Amidst this challenge, Adhirath Singh Walia class XI student stood tall, securing a bronze medal in the Under-19 category. Inspired by the relentless spirit of Turkish cyclist Yunus Emre Yılmaz, known for pushing boundaries with discipline and passion, Adhirath dedicated his medal to the mindset of resilience and focus. A previous silver medalist and national-level participant, Adhirath believes that embracing global role models helps shape local excellence.

Joining him in representing the school were Ayam Kumar class VIII and Shashwat Thakur class IX students, both of whom earned finisher medals in the Under-16 category, making their mark with confidence and commitment as first time riders. Fellow rider Agnay Grover class IX, though unable to finish due to a crash, reflected the camaraderie of the team: “Unfortunately, I crashed and couldn’t complete the race, but I’m glad that my friends managed to finish strong. That’s what really matters—supporting each other and pushing our limits.”

The race was preceded by a 15 km Heritage Ride on May 16, celebrating Shimla’s rich colonial architecture and legacy. Stages 1 and 2 took cyclists through scenic and demanding terrains including the Kufri-Chail Wildlife Sanctuary and Potter’s Hill–Glen Reserve Forest, with a mix of meadows, jeep tracks, and steep forest trails.

Principal Reuben T John praised the boys’ determination: “This is not just about cycling; it’s about values, discipline, and the will to rise. Our students have shown that mountain life nurtures strong bodies and stronger minds. We are proud of their efforts and the message they carry for a healthier, cleaner, and drug-free future.”

For the Auckland House cyclists, who live and train in the mountains every day, events like MTB Shimla are both a challenge and a celebration. They believe cycling is not just a sport but a lifestyle solution—for health, environment, mobility, and mental well-being.
