Phagwara : In a major step toward improving urban sanitation, the Municipal Corporation Phagwara has successfully cleared a long-standing garbage dump in C.R.P. Colony, Urban Estate, following directives from Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh.

The move has received wide appreciation from local residents, who had long struggled with the health and environmental hazards caused by the site. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Akshita Gupta affirmed the Punjab Government's strong commitment to urban sanitation reforms. She recalled that the issue of the dump was raised during Dr. Ravjot Singh’s recent surprise inspection, during which he expressed serious concern over sanitation lapses in the area.

Dr. Gupta extended her gratitude to the Minister, Halqa Incharge, Mayor, councillors, and the community for their collective role in resolving the problem. Strict Penalties for Future Violations To prevent reoccurrence, the Municipal Corporation has announced a fine of up to ₹5,000 for anyone found dumping garbage at the cleared site. Residents have also been urged to actively participate in waste management by segregating wet and dry waste at the household level.

Long-term Beautification Plans Underway Looking ahead, the Municipal Corporation is coordinating with the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA)—under whose jurisdiction Urban Estate falls—for the beautification and long-term development of the area. While day-to-day operations and maintenance remain under MC Phagwara, officials emphasize the need for strategic collaboration with JDA to ensure sustainable urban growth.

Leadership and Community Effort Applauded Mayor Rampal Uppal praised the swift action and stressed that sanitation is a top priority for the Municipal Corporation. He credited the success to the leadership of Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, Halqa Incharge Joginder Singh Mann, AAP Spokesperson Harji Mann, and councillors Praveen Thakur and Gurpreet Kaur Jhandu, who worked in close coordination with residents and municipal teams.

He also made a heartfelt appeal to citizens: “Cleanliness is not just a government responsibility—it’s a shared civic duty. Every resident must treat their surroundings as their own home.” This initiative marks a significant milestone in Phagwara’s mission to build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment.
