Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come under severe fire after one of its Patiala councillors, Anuj Khosla, signed a bail bond for an accused drug smuggler. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang launched a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that the party is the real protector of drug traffickers in Punjab. He claimed BJP leaders repeatedly defend smugglers and provide them political shelter.
Kang presented a photograph to the media showing Anuj Khosla with senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh, asserting that Khosla is closely associated with both of them.
Kang stated that Anuj Khosla is extremely close to Captain Amarinder Singh and has been organizing all his programs in Patiala. He maintains strong ties with all major BJP leaders and is often seen at BJP events.
On March 29, 2025, BJP councillor Anuj Khosla submitted an affidavit in court to secure the bail of Khushjot Singh, who had an FIR lodged against him under the NDPS Act for drug trafficking.
Kang highlighted that the Punjab government is conducting a war-like campaign titled “Yudh Nasheyan Virodh” (War Against Drugs) to eradicate the drug menace from the roots. Due to this campaign, the entire Punjab has united against drugs and traffickers. Meanwhile, BJP leaders are engaged in helping drug smugglers secure bail. According to Kang, BJP does not want drugs to be eradicated from Punjab, as many of its leaders have deep connections with drug mafias.
He further said that the roots of today’s drug crisis in Punjab were planted during the BJP-Akali coalition government. These parties protected drug traffickers, ruining the future of thousands of youth and destroying countless families. For their own financial gain, they partnered with drug traders and helped promote the trade. Punjab is now bearing the consequences of those actions.
Kang emphasized that the AAP government is committed to eliminating drugs from Punjab. Hundreds of drug traffickers are being acted against daily. In the last two months alone, over 10,000 traffickers have been arrested and thousands of kilograms of narcotics have been seized.
Regarding drug-related issues, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s instructions are crystal clear: whether it is high-ranking police officials like SSPs or SHOs or drug traders connected to politicians, strict action will be taken against all. The Mann government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, crime, and corruption, and no compromise will be made on such matters.
