Sikkim has higher dropout rate of boys at Secondary School level than girls, according to a report released by Union Ministry of Education (2019-20) rate of dropouts among boys is 25.6 pc,whereas it is only 21.1 pc among girls at Secondary School level. Earlier, some of the causes of dropouts were said to be crowd of students under single teacher across the country in various institutions.

Long walking distance, with lack of transport and lack of toilets exclusively for girls. Sikkim on the path of improving the quality of Education has good Teacher pupil ratio. At Secondary level Teacher:Pupil ratio has been reported as 10.9% and Higher Secondary level 10.7% ( as class 12 is the final class)by Govt of India. At lower level also it is not low.

At Primary level it is 6.7% andUpper Primary level 8.6%. As far as separate Toilets for girls are concerned now they have 99.23 % toilets for girls in Govt Schools, those too are said to be functional, which is encouraging. Some non Govt Schools still do not have proper toilet facilities. They need rules to be imposed in the interest of health and education of students.

Sikkim has been getting separate toilets constructed for Girls,in keeping with the Right to Education Act and Central policy. In the course of time it has been recorded that Govt,Private,Aided, under management control Schools have been trying to provide separate toilet facilities to girls.

Sikkim Schools boast of 1185 functional Girls Toilet facilities However,State Govt authorities have already remarked that Dropouts are mostly due to distance between schools and residential areas of students in question.
