Faculty members and trainee officers from IRIMEE also attended the talk at Baroda House New Delhi. The event began with an address from GM/NR, who highlighted the steps being taken by Railways on the environmental front, especially for proper solid waste management, saving of water and conservation of energy. He stressed that this year should be the year of action, and further efforts should be made to boost environmental sustainability through sound implementation of various initiatives.
A short online quiz on environment was organized for all attendees by the students of Sanskriti School, New Delhi.Thereafter, an informative and engaging session on “Environmental Ethics” was held by Mr. Krishna Mohan. In his talk, Mr. Krishna Mohan highlighted that ethical behaviour is based on the premise that we should give whatever we take from Mother Earth. The resources of Earth are finite and only ethical behaviour on the part of human beings can prevent them from being over-exploited. He also highlighted that it has been categorically established through IPCC Assessment reports that humans are the cause of climate change. The ecological footprint of human beings has been steadily increasing every year. There is still hope for mankind if transformative changes are made by human beings. This can happen if individuals and organisations do all that is possible in their domain; consume water, energy and products using these mindfully, properly dispose of waste generated and plant as many trees as possible.
