India and Ghana agree that terrorism is the enemy of humanity: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and Ghana have agreed to elevate their bilateral relations to the level of a "comprehensive partnership" under which the two countries will also advance defence and security cooperation guided by the principle of "security through solidarity". PM Modi described India as a "co-traveller" in the African country's journey towards "nation-building". The announcement was made after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and Ghana's President John Mahama in Accra on Wednesday.

Addressing the joint statement in Ghana, Prime Minister Modi said that we agree that terrorism is the enemy of humanity. We thank Ghana for its cooperation in the fight against terrorism. We have decided to strengthen our cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

We believe this is not the time for war

PM Modi further said that our views about UN reforms are similar. We expressed deep concern about the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Europe. We believe that this is not the time for war. Problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Our bilateral trade crossed US$3 billion

PM Modi said, “Today, the President of Ghana and I have decided to elevate our bilateral partnership to the level of ‘Comprehensive Partnership’. India is not only a partner but also a co-traveller in Ghana’s journey of nation-building, with our bilateral trade crossing US$3 billion.”

India to share digital payments experience with UPI Ghana

PM Modi said that Indian companies have invested $2 billion in about 900 projects. We have decided to double our trade within the next 5 years. In the field of fintech, India will share digital payment experience with UPI Ghana. He said that it is a matter of pride for India that under our G20 presidency, the African Union got permanent membership of the G20.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to five countries Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia from July 2 to July 9, 2025. In the first leg of his five-day visit, PM Modi reached Accra, the capital of Ghana on Wednesday.
