New Delhi : Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Monday indicated that the Election Commission is "worried" and said they can't met with elected representatives hours after the poll body had granted an appointment for an interaction at 12 PM on Monday on the request of the Congress Party.

In a letter addressed to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, the Election Commission of India's secretariat stated that the Commission has considered the request and decided to grant an appointment for an interaction.

The appointment is granted in response to Jairam Ramesh's request on "behalf of certain political parties". The Election Commission has requested to submit the names of upto 30 people along with their vehicle numbers for the interaction due to the limitation of space. The agenda of the meeting is not mentioned in the letter.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "The Election Commission of India is worried. They cannot meet with elected representatives because they lack answers to our questions... Are we thieves? Are we talking against the interest of the country?..."

Meawhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi linked the INDIA bloc leaders' march to the Election Commission as a "fight to save the Constitution" and demanded a "pure" voters list, while Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi accused the BJP-led Union government of being "scared".

Delhi police on Monday detained Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and a host of other INDIA bloc leaders as the police foiled their march to the Election Commission to protest over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of "vote chori" (vote theft) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi told reporters while being detained, "The reality is that they cannot talk. The truth is in front of the country. This fight is not political. This fight is to save the Constitution. This fight is for One Man, One Vote. We want a clean, pure voters list."

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told news agency, "Dare hue hai. Sarkaar kaayar hai" (They are scared. The Government is a coward). The other leaders who were detained were Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and TMC MP Sagarika Ghose.
