August 16, 2025 08:44 PM

Chandigarh- The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with pride, emotion and patriotic fervour across Punjab today. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government organised state-level functions in all districts to pay heartfelt tribute to the valiant sons of the soil and their families

During these functions, the Chief Minister, along with various Cabinet Ministers, specially honoured the families of martyrs, gallantry awardees and prominent ex-servicemen. On this occasion, Minister for Defence Services Welfare, Horticulture and Freedom Fighters, Mohinder Bhagat, unfurled the national flag at Hoshiarpur. Bhagat had earlier directed all district administrations to ensure that on this significant day, the families of those who laid down their lives for the nation and ex-servicemen—symbols of bravery—were given due honour by the Government. To mark the occasion, the Department of Defence Services Welfare had prepared special mementoes for presentation to the martyrs’ families and valiant ex-servicemen. These mementoes were presented by the chief guests during the state-level Independence Day celebrations across the districts.

In these events, held throughout Punjab, martyrs’ families, ex-servicemen and their dependents participated with great enthusiasm, making the historic day memorable. In their addresses, the chief guests reiterated that the Punjab Government always stands shoulder-to-shoulder with ex-servicemen, martyrs’ families and their dependents and is fully committed to their welfare.
