Rahul attacks BJP over farmers' movement

October 08, 2021 11:42 AM

New Delhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attacked the BJP over ongoing farmers' protest, alleging that its "party leaders and their sons" think that farmers should be mowed by vehicles to tackle the agitation.

"BJP leaders and their sons have started assuming that farmers should be crushed by vehicles to deal with the agricultural agitation," Mr Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

He also tagged a media report which claimed that protesting farmers have alleged that a farmer was injured after he was hit by one of the vehicles of cavalcade of BJP MP Nayab Singh Saini at Naraingarh in Haryana’s Ambala district.

It may be mentioned here that nine people, including four farmers and one journalist, were killed and several injured after a convoy of three SUVs, one of which owned by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, crushed protesters in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3. Farmers have alleged the Minister's son was in one of the cars.

The farmers have been protesting demanding the repeal of the Centre’s farm laws enacted last year.
