BJP’s candidate Rajiv Narang belongs to the Punjabi community, which also constitutes a sizeable population in the town. The others in fray for the chairman’s post are the AAP’s candidate Arpit Popli and Independent Vishawnath Sharma.
However, the voters have kept their cards close to their chest, but the political analysist considers a close contest at this seat.
A local, Virender Kumar, said a close contest was on the cards as the entire BJP leadership was making efforts to ensure the victory of party candidate while Bansal was getting support from various sections of the society.
AAP leaders were also not leaving any stone unturned and making all out efforts to woo the voters and Independent candidate Sharma was also reaching out to people, locals added.
The candidates said development of Taraori was their priority. Bansal said that if voted to power, he would work for the overall development of the town. Narang said he would try to implement various public welfare works of the ruling government in the town.
Meanwhile, 39 candidates are also in fray to be members of the 15 wards. As many as 18,804 voters will exercise their right to vote on June 19.
