President, PM and Union Ministers extend wishes to new Vice President Radhakrishnan

NEW DELHI; President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several Union Ministers on Tuesday congratulated C.P. Radhakrishnan on being elected as the Vice President of India.

 

In a post on X, President Murmu said: “Congratulations to Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan on being elected as the Vice President of India! Your decades of rich experience in public life will contribute significantly to the nation’s progress. I extend my best wishes to you for a successful and impactful tenure.”

 

In a post on X, said, “Met Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji and congratulated him on winning the Vice Presidential election.” PM Modi described him as a leader devoted to serving the poor and marginalised. He said Radhakrishnan would strengthen constitutional values and enrich parliamentary discourse.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Radhakrishnan’s grassroots journey and knowledge of administration would contribute to strengthening parliamentary democracy. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari praised Radhakrishnan’s commitment to democratic values and vision for the nation. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu also extended his wishes, describing the election outcome as a reaffirmation of India’s democratic vibrancy.

 

C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, secured 452 first-preference votes in the Vice Presidential election, defeating Justice (Retd.) B. Sudarshan Reddy, who received 300 votes.  While C.P. Radhakrishnan is the 15th individual to hold the office, he is counted as the 17th Vice President in terms of the position.
