Chandigarh:Haryana’s Energy, Transport & Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said today that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government has provided substantial relief to the people of India by simplifying the GST structure into just two primary slabs that is 5 percent and 18 percent.

He highlighted that citizens will receive an annual benefit of Rs. 2.5 lakh crore from this decision, which will continue year after year. While interacting with media persons today, Sh. Vij explained that nearly 90 percent of goods previously taxed at the 28 percent slab have now been brought down to 18 percent, directly providing around 10 percent relief to consumers. Similarly, the 12 percent slab has been merged into 5 percent, giving the public an additional 7 percent benefit.

He added that while essential commodities are being made available at lower rates, health-hazardous and luxury items have been placed in a separate 40 percent slab.

Sh. Vij said that this reform comes at the start of the festive season, particularly ahead of Navratri, giving households significant financial relief while also boosting trade, increasing market demand, and encouraging the establishment of new industries and factories—creating fresh employment opportunities.

“Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, this decision will propel us forward at bullet-train speed. I am confident that it will lead to a remarkable acceleration in the nation’s growth rate,” Sh. Vij said.
