SHIMLA: A new phase has begun in the Himachal Pradesh Congress as Vinay Kumar formally assumed charge as the new President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) at a ceremony held at Rajiv Bhavan, Shimla. Senior leaders, ministers, and a large number of party workers attended the event and extended warm wishes, expressing hope for organizational revival.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said Vinay Kumar, a three-time MLA connected deeply with the party’s core ideology, comes from the Scheduled Caste community, which will strengthen social representation within the organization. He expressed confidence that under his leadership, Congress will move ahead unitedly and pave the way for a return to power. He said the combination of senior leaders’ experience and youth energy will drive the party forward.
Himachal Congress in-charge Rajni Patil said Vinay Kumar’s appointment will give new direction to the party. She informed that the process of appointing district presidents will be completed soon and that the Congress is building a strong team under the organization restructuring campaign to face upcoming political challenges.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri called Vinay Kumar’s elevation the beginning of a new chapter. He said the leader from Renuka Ji—constituency of the state’s first Chief Minister—will continue its proud political legacy. He added that the decision came after extensive deliberation and expressed confidence that restructuring will be completed soon.
Former HPCC President Pratibha Singh congratulated Vinay Kumar and stressed that strengthening the organization is crucial for electoral success. She clarified that delays in restructuring were due to decisions pending with the high command and expressed hope for better coordination between the government and the organization.
After taking charge, Vinay Kumar thanked the party high command for their trust and said forming committees from district to booth level will be a major challenge. He assured that he will work with full dedication to build a strong organization and ensure smooth coordination between government and party.
