Chandigarh: A 70 years old patient with poor heart pumping capacity of 35 % only & long standing heart disease underwent a successful knee replacement by joint replacement surgeon Dr. Gagandeep Gupta at Shalby Hospital, Mohali recently.
The patient was suffering from osteoarthritis in both knees and was also diagnosed with congestive heart failure 10 years back. He had an ejection fraction (pumping capacity of heart) of just 35% in comparison to 65 % of normal individuals. Along with this, the patient had severe MR leakage of heart valves (MR).
After evaluating the patient, Dr Gupta discussed patients’ history and reports with the cardiologist and anaesthesia critical team.
After proper evaluation, the patient was planned for knee replacement surgery with all the precautions and measures taken, said Dr Gupta adding such complex surgery was only possible with complete health evaluation.
After knee replacement the patient is comfortably walking and living his life normally.
