GHUMARWIN (BILASPUR):- A major step towards strengthening access to justice and social awareness was witnessed on Sunday with the successful organization of a large legal literacy camp at the Sub-Divisional Court Complex, Ghumarwin. The camp was held under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Bilaspur.
The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble, District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Bilaspur, Justice Jyotsna Sumant Dadhwal after lighting the ceremonial lamp. A large gathering comprising judicial officers, advocates, administrative officials, representatives of social organizations and members of the public attended the event. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Ghumarwin, Dr. Mohit Bansal welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Dadhwal emphasized that legal literacy camps play a crucial role in ensuring justice reaches the most marginalized sections of society. She underlined the importance of spreading awareness about free legal aid, Lok Adalats, laws related to women and child protection, senior citizens’ rights and legal support available to disaster-affected persons, urging people to fully utilize the schemes of the Legal Services Authority.
Bar Association President Advocate L.R. Nadda highlighted environmental protection as a shared responsibility, while Advocate Nidhi Ratan spoke on women’s empowerment through legal awareness, elaborating on key protective laws and free legal aid provisions. Tehsildar Ghumarwin Babita Dhiman sensitized the public on disaster rehabilitation mechanisms and compensation procedures. Advocate Pawan Kumar Sharma stressed the urgent need for a drug-free society, particularly to safeguard the youth.
Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Ranjit Singh Thakur, also addressed the camp, outlining ongoing legal awareness programmes. Free legal advice, informative pamphlets and departmental exhibitions further enhanced public engagement.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Acting Chairperson, Sub-Divisional Legal Services Authority, Ghumarwin Swati Barwal followed by the national anthem.
