Hyderabad: Actor Eesha Rebba has filed a police complaint after receiving an abusive and defamatory comment from a fake Instagram account, the Banjara Hills Police said on Tuesday. An investigation has been initiated following the registration of an FIR under provisions of the Information Technology Act.
According to the complaint, the actor alleged that an individual posted an “obscene” and “defamatory” comment about her on social media, causing emotional distress and public humiliation.
“During the course of promotions, an obscene, sexually explicit, and defamatory comment was posted on a public social media page by an individual operating a meme or social media account. The language used is deeply disturbing and derogatory and amounts to mental harassment,” Rebba stated in her complaint, as cited in the FIR.
She further said that such content targets her dignity and has caused severe emotional distress, anxiety, and mental turmoil. The actor also noted that the incident was not isolated, alleging that similar abusive comments have surfaced repeatedly, pointing to a growing pattern of misuse of social media platforms under the guise of anonymity and freedom of expression.
Seeking action, Rebba urged authorities to address the misuse of digital platforms for harassment and obscenity. “I respectfully request the concerned authorities to kindly look into this issue, take appropriate action under the relevant provisions of law, and ensure accountability,” she said, adding that she is willing to fully cooperate with the investigation.
Eesha Rebba recently appeared alongside Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam in the Telugu-language film Om Shanti Shanti Shanthi, directed by AR Sajeev, which is currently running in theatres.
