Punjab Governor flags off the first of 40 Eicher electric buses of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking

Chandigarh : Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, the honorable Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, flagged off the first of 40 fully-built Eicher Skyline Pro E electric bus, from Punjab Raj Bhawan.

 

The event was also graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Smt. KirronKher, Member of Parliament; Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS- Advisor to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh; Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav (IAS), Transport Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; and Sh. Pradhuman Singh (HCS), Director Transport, UT, Chandigarh. With this initiative, VE Commercial Vehicles Limited, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, will support the state’s vision of building a greener and sustainable state by supplying 40 units of Eicher Skyline Pro E 3012H electric buses to Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU). 

 

 

VE Commercial Vehicles Limited will also provide the necessary infrastructure by creating charging stations for these electric buses. As part of this association, VECV will be managing and running the buses under Gross Cost Contract model for a period of 10 years.Mr. Pradhuman Singh (HCS), DirectorTransport, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) said, “CTU is committed to improving the quality of transportation in Chandigarh.

 

 

The new lot of Eicher electric buses will provide efficient, comfortable and affordable travel to the passengers of Chandigarh.”Commenting on the occasion, Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles Limited said, “VECV is proud to partner with CTU, to transform the future of mobility in Chandigarh. Commenting on this new offering, Akash Passey, President, Bus Division, VE Commercial Vehicles Limitedsaid, “We thank CTU for giving us the opportunity to serve Chandigarh city and we are sure that this order will further encourage our ongoing efforts on developing EV based green mobility solutions for CV industry.

 

To provide a smooth transition, we are not only deploying and maintaining electric buses, but will also help CTU to set charging infrastructure to streamline the transition to an electric fleet.”
