Chandigarh: Amid an intense heatwave and rising electricity demand, Punjab residents grappling with power shortages may soon find relief. State Power Minister Sanjeev Arora has assured that the electricity situation will stabilise from May 1, with supply expected to return to normal levels.

The minister stated that power demand typically peaks in the last week of May. However, this year, an early and severe rise in temperatures has triggered an unprecedented surge in electricity consumption during April itself.

He noted that the issue is not limited to Punjab but is being experienced across several parts of North India, where soaring temperatures have pushed power systems under stress.

Arora further explained that Punjab is currently facing reduced electricity supply from external sources, adding to the strain on the state’s grid. Despite these challenges, he said the government is making continuous efforts to improve the situation.

Reiterating his assurance, the minister said that the power shortage is expected to significantly decline from May 1, and authorities are working to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.

He also appealed to the public to cooperate during this period of high demand and use electricity judiciously.
