Rupnagar: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday launched a statewide “Shukrana Yatra” from Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of the Khalsa Panth. He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang.
Before flagging off the yatra, the Chief Minister paid obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, seeking blessings. The yatra has been initiated following the implementation of the “Jaagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Law Amendment 2026.” The Punjab government stated that the new legislation aims to prevent incidents of sacrilege involving the Guru Granth Sahib and ensure strict action against those found guilty. The initiative has been named “Shukrana Yatra” to reflect gratitude and reverence.
Addressing the gathering, Mann reiterated that his government is fully committed to safeguarding the dignity and sanctity of Guru Granth Sahib. He said that for a long time, people had been demanding stricter laws against sacrilege, and the government has acted in line with public sentiment.
“The land of Punjab belongs to Gurus, saints, and spiritual leaders. Respecting religious sentiments is of utmost importance here,” the Chief Minister added.
