Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday approved the advance release of ₹2,117.85 crore from the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support states affected by floods during the ongoing southwest monsoon.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the assistance is aimed at strengthening relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected states. It added that the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains committed to extending all necessary support to the states and will continue to closely monitor the flood situation.
According to the ministry, the Centre has been monitoring the flood situation in coordination with state governments since the onset of the monsoon. It has also extended assistance through the pre-deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and logistical support from the Ministry of Defence wherever required.
Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have already been deputed to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to assess the damage caused by floods. Two IMCT visits have been undertaken in Assam in view of the severity of the flood situation, while an IMCT is also being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state government.
The ministry said that among the seven affected states, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Nagaland had already received the first instalment of the Central share of SDRF for the financial year 2026-27.
To ensure the timely availability of funds for relief operations, the Home Minister approved the advance release of the second instalment of the Central share of SDRF to Himachal Pradesh and Odisha. The Centre has also approved the advance release of the first instalment for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra, relaxing the documentary requirements under the applicable guidelines in view of the urgent need for relief resources.
Under the approved assistance, Arunachal Pradesh will receive ₹44.55 crore, Assam ₹379.35 crore, Gujarat ₹500 crore, Himachal Pradesh ₹193.95 crore, Maharashtra ₹500 crore and Odisha ₹500 crore.
The ministry said the release of funds would strengthen the ongoing relief and response measures being undertaken by the flood-affected states during the current monsoon season.
