The Rajya Sabha was briefly adjourned for 15 minutes on Tuesday during a short duration discussion on Covid-19 amid continued sloganeering by the opposition.
As the House reassembled at 1300 hrs after the second adjournment, Deputy Chairperson Harivansh took up short duration discussion on Covid-19 management in agreement with some of the opposition leaders.
YSR Congress MP Vijai Sai Reddy sought an adjournment motion to press his demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh. Leader of the House Piyush Goyal urged him to take his seat.
The House then took up the discussion on Coronavirus with BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta initiating it. 'We thought this (COVID) will be short lived. But that was not the case. Not only second wave, now we are expecting a third wave,' he said.
He pointed out how only a few members wore mask last year, to which the Chair objected and adjourned the House for 15 minutes to reconvene at 1324 hrs. Amid pandemonium, the House witnessed two adjournments- first till 1200 hrs and then 1300 hrs.
