PATIALA: Patialvi Patrakar, a Punjabi book authored by Sardar Ujagar Singh, former District Public Relations Officer of Punjab, was released here on Friday by renowned educationist and social worker Principal Babu Singh Guram.
Congratulating the author, Principal Guram said the book would serve as a valuable historical record of journalists who had contributed significantly to journalism and society, preserving their legacy for future generations.
The book documents the lives, journalistic journeys and social contributions of approximately 158 journalists associated with Patiala across different periods. Ujagar Singh expressed gratitude to Principal Guram for sponsoring its publication.
Ujagar Singh, who has authored around 17 books on social, historical, political and literary subjects, has previously written titles including Patiala Di Virasat, Samkali Samaj, Siyasat Ate Lok Sampark, Punjab De 52 Ratan Heere, Sardar Beant Singh Qatal Da Asal Sach, Punjab Dian Anmol Ratan Shakhsiyatan and Apne Sikh Samaj De Masle.
Principal Guram said research-based publications played an important role in preserving the contributions of prominent personalities and significant events. He expressed hope that the book would benefit readers, researchers and young people interested in Patiala’s journalistic history.
Ujagar Singh announced that Sardar Manmohan Singh, son of his late friend and veteran Patiala journalist Sardar Sohan Singh, who published a daily newspaper titled Tir Kaman, had undertaken to publish the second edition of Patialvi Patrakar within six months. Manmohan Singh, a former Deputy Secretary in the Public Relations Department of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom), also plans to send copies to universities across Punjab that have journalism departments.
Several prominent media personalities and senior journalists attended the event, including Dr. Harjinder Singh Walia of Time TV, international journalist Narpal Singh Shergill, Ravel Bhinder, former president of the Media Club Patiala and senior journalist with Punjabi Tribune, Jaswinder Singh Dakha, Sukannya Bhardwaj, Gurkirpal Singh Ashk, Harbans Sodhi, Gagandeep Singh Ahuja, Bhushan Sood, Jaspal Singh Dhillon, Chaudhary Prabhjot Singh and Satinder Singh Narula.
The speakers appreciated Ujagar Singh’s efforts, describing the book as an important contribution to preserving Patiala’s journalistic heritage and a valuable resource for the younger generation.
District Public Relations Officer Bhupesh Chatha and former District Public Relations Officer Kuljit Singh were also present. Patiala Media Club President Parmeet Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
