October 26, 2026 04:36 PM

NEW DELHI: Prince Alois, the hereditary prince of Liechtenstein, arrived in Mumbai on Sunday on a four-day State Visit to India from October 25 to 28, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prince Alois, the Acting Head of State of the Principality of Liechtenstein, is accompanied by his spouse, Hereditary Princess Sophie, along with a high-level official delegation and a business delegation comprising leading industry representatives.

In a post on X, the MEA said, “A warm welcome to India! H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein arrived in Mumbai on a State Visit to India. He was received by Shri Jaykumar Rawal, Minister of Protocol, Government of Maharashtra. India–Liechtenstein share warm and cordial relations, based on shared values.”

According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi and Prince Alois will hold bilateral talks during the visit to discuss cooperation in areas including trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments.

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to meet the visiting dignitary and host an official banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also call on Prince Alois during the visit.

This is Prince Alois’s second visit to India in 2026. He had earlier travelled to New Delhi in February to attend the AI Impact Summit. He had also visited India in 2010 and 2018.

The MEA said the visit is expected to provide further impetus to the growing engagement between India and Liechtenstein, particularly following the operationalisation of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement in 2025.
