Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday took a sharp dig at the Congress over its legislators’ boycott of the Assembly, saying the party’s actions reflected its political position and that voters would respond to it in the coming elections.
“A lamp flickers the most just before it goes out,” Mann remarked, targeting the Congress legislators who walked out of the Assembly. He said such protests would not bring any political benefit to the party.
The Chief Minister also questioned the unity within the Congress, alleging that its leaders lacked coordination and were divided among themselves. He asked how a party unable to maintain unity among its own leaders could collectively fight for Punjab’s issues.
Commenting on visits by senior Congress leaders from the national level to Punjab, Mann claimed that their campaigning in previous elections had failed to deliver the results the party had expected. He suggested that the Congress could face a similar situation in the coming elections.
Mann’s remarks came amid a confrontation between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress during the ongoing Assembly session, with Congress legislators boycotting proceedings in protest.
