Islamabad, Former director general of Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Faiz Hameed on Monday took over the command of Peshawar Corps.
The ceremony for handing over the command was held at Peshawar Corps Headquarters, said a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood handed over the Command of Peshawar Corps to Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.
The new ISI Director-General Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum assumed charge of his office on Saturday last after he was formally notified by the PM Office on October 26.
Though the Pakistan Army on October 6 announced that Lt Gen Anjum would be the new ISI Chief and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed take over as Peshawar Corps Commander, the Imran Khan government delayed issuing a signed order on it.
Imran Khan was keen that Lt Gen Hameed continue as ISI chief, as he had played a key role in Afghanistan after the Taliban came to power, and helped quell the resistance in Panjshir, among other things.
The delay in issuance of the government notification on Lt Gen Anjum's appointment led to tensions between the military establishment and the civilian government, and saw Imran Khan and COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa holding talks to smooth over the ruffles.
Later, Imran Khan approved the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as director general Inter-Services Intelligence, with effect from November 20.
