Sensex up 157.45 points

Mumbai, Extending its gains for the third straight session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex advanced by 157.45 points to close at 58,807.13 following gains in Capital Goods, Telecom, FMCG and Energy stocks amid positive Asian Markets.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too moved up by 47.10 points to close at 17,516.85.

High volatility was witnessed on Thursday, as the Sensex opened higher by 182 points to reach 58,831.41. It edged up 240 points to 58,889.41, the days high, before closing at 58,807.13, up 157.45 points from its previous close.

Meanwhile, it dropped 309 points to reach 58,340.85, the days low.

The Sensex registered the days high and low at 58,889.41 and 58,340.85 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 17,543.25 and 17,379.60 points respectively.

The sectoral indices like Capital Goods, Telecom, Industrials, FMCG and Energy stocks supported the market.

In scrips, ITC was a star gainer, rallied 4.85 per cent to close at Rs 235.85 followed by L & T by 3.18 per cent to close at Rs 1882, Asian Paints by 1.97 per cent to close at Rs 3170.45, Reliance Industries by 1.43 per cent to close at Rs 2452 and M & M by 0.97 per cent to close at Rs 848.80.

The losers were HDFC Bank by 1.72 per cent to close at Rs 1526.70, Titan by 1.33 per cent to close at Rs 2373, Nestle India by 1.21 per cent to close at Rs 19,241.01, NTPC by 0.82 per cent to close at Rs 126.25 and Powergrid by 0.71 per cent to close at Rs 203.40.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.38 pc and Small Cap by 0.80 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 15 advanced while 15 declined.

Asian market too rose on Thursday, as the Hang Seng, Shanghai Composite and Kospi were up around a per cent each.

Similarly, Taiwan and Straits Times too gained 0.5 and 0.3 per cent respectively.

However, Nikkei fell 0.5 per cent.
