Shimla:All India Congress Committee spokesperson Supriya Shrinet made a scathing attack on the BJP over the heinous crimes being committed against women. She took a dig at the BJP over the heinous crime of a two-year-old in Manali, in Kullu district, and said that daughters are not safe under BJP rule. Referring to Gujarat, she also surrounded the BJP government at the centre and alleged that the BJP was fighting the elections on the strength of miscreants. She termed the incident of the release of 11 people found guilty of misconduct there as an insult to women and said that Congress is continuously fighting against it and will continue to do so, because Congress did not do this election but women's self-respect and their safety are at stake. He said that Congress has a zero-tolerance policy regarding crimes against women.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Shrinet said that the heinous crime of a 2-year-old in Manali in Kullu district has disturbed her a lot. She said that it is clear from this incident that daughters are not safe in this BJP-ruled state. A few days ago, the burned body of a woman was recovered, and the dead body of a woman who went to cut grass in Nerwa was found hanging from a tree. She said that these incidents are disturbing and that Congress cannot remain silent on them. She said that after the Gudiya episode in 2017, the BJP set up the Gudiya Helpline, and 8500 complaints have been registered on it, but no action has been taken against anyone. She said that not even two words came out of the mouths of the leaders of the Central and Himachal governments of the BJP, who boasted of Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao, on the Manali incident.
The national spokesperson of the Congress said that many heinous crimes have taken place against women in many BJP-ruled states. In neighbouring Uttarakhand, a young woman was being forcibly pushed into the swamp of a BJP leader's hotel, and on refusing, the leader's son killed her, and the government and administration there destroyed all the evidence by running a bulldozer on the hotel. Referring to the horrific incidents involving women in Hathras, Unnao, Lakhimpur, and Tripura in Uttar Pradesh, he said that the BJP government has done the work of saving the accused, but the victim has not received any justice. She said that in Lakhimpur, BJP leaders chirp a woman and no action is taken.
Supriya Shrinet also attacked the release of Ram Rahim on parole by the Haryana government and said that a Himachal minister is seeking his blessings in the form of votes. She said that in Kathmandu, there are demonstrations in support of the violators, but no action is taken. She asked Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and especially BJP leaders what they were doing about such incidents. She directly alleged that the malpractices are being protected by the government and the administration, and this is boosting their spirits. She said that Congress is against politics in cases of misconduct, but as the opposition, they have to speak on these matters so that the government takes concrete action against the culprits. He said that the concern of Congress is the safety of daughters and women, and for this, it is their responsibility to pressurise the government to take action.
Supriya Shrinet said that she has seen pictures of the Bharat Jod Yatra, in which girls, mothers, and sisters are walking holding Rahul Gandhi's hand. She said that this is possible only when she feels safe.
Rahul Gandhi should set up the ministry of propaganda and give the responsibility to Smriti Irani.
Supriya Shrinet slammed Union Minister Smriti Irani and said that her focus is not on her ministries but on Rahul Gandhi. Even after getting the Ministry of Women and Child Development, she remains silent on the incidents of misconduct with women. She said that Smriti Irani spreads propaganda only against Rahul Gandhi. Therefore, the central government should make Rahul Gandhi the head of a propaganda ministry, and its minister should be Smriti Irani, so that she can do some work openly.
Temple is not the property of everyone, BJP leaders
On Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's allegation that BJP leaders were playing politics with temples, Shrinet said that temples belonged to everyone and were not only the fiefdom of BJP leaders. He said that the BJP is not giving its report card for five years in Himachal. She is only trying to confuse the public with issues by talking here and there, but the public is not going to fall for her. He said that the BJP leaders do not have to count the work of the government. That's why he speaks only to Congress leaders.
On this occasion, Congress spokesperson Alka Lamba said that Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has asked the state unit of the Mahila Congress to provide all possible help to the victim's family members regarding the incident in Manali. He said that according to the information received from there, the victim girl was not treated in Manali, and from there she was sent to Kullu. After he reached Kullu, doctors referred him to the PGI. He said that the Congress will try its best to bring punishment to those who are guilty in this incident. He also expressed grief over not getting two words of condolences from BJP leaders on this incident.
