All India bank strike from Dec 16 stands, Concilation meeting by Addl CLC adjourned to tomorrow

December 14, 2021 10:41 PM

Hyderabad, United Forum of Bank Unions' (UFBU) has decided to go ahead with the two-day nation-wide strike from December 16 as the Centre has not given any assurance in the Conciliation meeting, convened by Additional Chief Labour Commissioner S C Joshi in the National Capital on Tuesday, that the Banking Laws (Amendments Bill) 2021 will not be tabled in the ongoing session of Parliament.

In a bid to avert the two-day nation-wide strike called by the UFBU, Mr Joshi conducted the adjourned conciliation meeting today with leaders of Bank Unions, Representatives from Indian Banks' Association (IBA) and Finance Ministry.

The two-day strike was called by UFBU to protest against the Central Government's move to privatise the Public Sector Banks (PSBs).

AIBEA General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam told UNI that the union leaders reiterated their standpoint and views that the 'bill has to be deferred to reconsider the strike'.

However, he said, the government has not given any assurance and added the two-day strike stands.

The Conciliation meeting was adjourned to Wednesday, Mr Venkatachalam added.
