Disclosing this here today Mr. Brindarmeet Singh Pahra MLA Gurdaspur said that Punjab Government would soon launch a massive planting drive to make the state green and clean, which was sanctioned for the financial year 2021-22 at a cost of Rs. 54.67 crore. Cost will be part of Green Punjab Mission.
Mr. Pahra said that the state government has asked the forest department to come up with a plan for free distribution of 25 lakh saplings so that the people could be involved in this mission to increase the area under greenery in the state. The Forest Department has been asked to set up 101 new gardens (nurseries) in the name of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru in the urban areas, and 128 sacred forests in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru on Panchayat and forest lands in the state. Forest area) and 12 Forest and Nature Awareness Parks will be set up during this financial year.
He said that Green Punjab Mission was one of the most important sub-missions to achieve the objective of health and well-being of the citizens with the objective of mitigating the effects of climate change. He said that all the planting activities would be completed during this monsoon season - and the participation and cooperation of the people, communities and various stakeholders would be ensured.
