Independence Day Celebrations at Aaykar Bhawan, Sector 17, Chandigarh

CHANDIARH: The Income Tax Department, Chandigarh, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm at Aaykar Bhawan, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Amrapalli Das, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North West Region.

 

 


The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by spirited cultural performances by children of the Income Tax Department staff, as well as students from Shivalik Public School and Gurukul Global School. Their performances reflected patriotism and showcased India’s diverse cultural heritage.

 
 


n this occasion, Prizes of Excellence were awarded to officers and staff of the Department in recognition of their dedication and outstanding contributions. Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Amrapalli Das highlighted the remarkable progress of the North West Region of the Income Tax Department in revenue mobilization. She emphasized that revenue collection is not just about figures, but about supporting governance, financing development, strengthening infrastructure, enabling welfare, and fostering innovation. She appreciated the role of officers and staff in widening the tax base, embracing technology, and making compliance simpler and more taxpayer-friendly.


She also noted that the North West Region has recorded a growth of 10.77% in direct tax collection during FY 2024-25, contributing significantly to the nation’s revenue, and commended the commitment and dedication of the workforce in achieving this milestone. The event concluded on patriotic fervor and reaffirming the Department’s resolve to contribute towards nation-building.
