September 01, 2025 05:14 PM

SHIMLA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the next six hours. Districts under alert include Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Solan, Una, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, and Shimla.

Heavy rains over the past 24 hours in Shimla district caused extensive damage to property and disruption of essential services. According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shimla, some fatalities were reported from Junga tehsil and Kotkhai subdivision.

The DDMA also reported that landslides have disrupted power and water supplies across several parts of Shimla city. In Rohru subdivision, heavy rains triggered a landslide in Dayar Moli village, putting three houses at risk. Four families belonging to Kuldeep, Sandeep, Pradeep, and Sonfu Ram were evacuated to safer areas.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ramesh Dhamotra said that two cowsheds were buried in the landslide, trapping two cows and one sheep. Rising water levels in the Shikdi rivulet have further heightened concerns among residents.

Authorities have urged people living in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant, as the IMD has forecast continued rainfall across the region. Since June 20, monsoon-related incidents have claimed several lives in Himachal Pradesh, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
