CHAMBA: Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal held a meeting with disaster management experts authorized by the State Disaster Management Authority to review the post-disaster needs assessment following the extensive damage caused during the recent monsoon season. The meeting took place at the DC office conference hall.
During the discussion, officials reviewed various aspects related to the assessment of damage, restoration efforts, and future preparedness. A detailed PowerPoint presentation highlighting the extent of damage across different areas of the district was also presented.
DC Repaswal said that certain villages in the district, though structurally appearing safe, are geographically vulnerable due to their terrain and soil conditions. He expressed concern that cracks that had appeared in several houses during the disaster are now widening with time, posing serious risks.
Experts and departmental representatives discussed the geological conditions, risk levels, and previous disaster experiences of the affected regions. The team from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) also visited several disaster-hit sites, including NH-154A, Rajera, Salooni, Gagla Dhulada, and other affected areas, to assess the ground situation.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra, Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal, SDM Priyanshu Khati, disaster management experts Vinay Kumar, Amit Tandon, Manjeet Singh, and Nitin Sharma, along with District Development Officer Tivinder Chineria, District Programme Officer (WCD) Kamal Kishore Sharma, Executive Engineers Pravesh Thakur, Jitender Sharma, Dinesh Kumar, Haminder Chona, and DPO (Health) Dr. Karn Hitaishi.
