HAMIRPUR: Former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rajendra Garg on Tuesday led a massive BJP protest in Ghumarwin against what the party claimed was the police administration functioning under the alleged authoritarian pressure of Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani. From early morning, hundreds of BJP workers and local residents gathered in the market, carrying placards and marching through Ghumarwin bazaar while raising slogans against the administration. The rally culminated at the local police station, where the protestors surrounded the station in-charge and handed over a memorandum demanding the immediate cancellation of what they described as “false cases” filed against people.
Addressing the gathering, former minister Rajendra Garg alleged that the police administration was completely working under political pressure, causing hardship to the public. He warned that if the police did not change its approach, the BJP would intensify its agitation in the future. He said the party would take to the streets to defend citizens’ rights and the cause of justice.
Garg claimed that the police functioning in the region appeared politically influenced and biased, resulting in false cases against BJP-affiliated public representatives, workers and ordinary citizens. According to him, an atmosphere resembling an emergency had been created in the Ghumarwin Assembly constituency to deter people and public representatives from speaking against injustice and corruption, which he termed a direct blow to the democratic framework.
Citing a recent incident, he said a Panchayat Samiti member who objected to the proposal of constructing a panchayat building over a drain was booked in a false case merely for voicing his dissent. Such actions, he alleged, were aimed at creating an environment of fear and repression so that no citizen could oppose the government or its policies.
He further stated that the police were not taking any concrete or impartial action on complaints filed by BJP-affiliated citizens. Despite multiple submissions, complaints were either ignored or met with purely formal and ineffective responses, raising serious questions about the neutrality of the police system. The memorandum demanded a thorough inquiry into all alleged false cases registered against BJP public representatives and workers, and their immediate withdrawal. A heavy police presence was deployed during the protest, though the situation remained fully under control. BJP leaders including Ghumarwin Mandal President Suresh Thakur and Bharari Mandal President Zorawar Patial were present.
