Chandigarh- The state-level ceremony held in Kurukshetra on Tuesday to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji turned into a deeply emotional and historic moment. The most significant scene emerged when Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini personally carried Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji on his head, performing the sacred ‘Palki Seva.’ This act reflected his profound respect for Sikh tradition and his devotion to the teachings of the revered Guru.
As the Panj Pyare led the holy procession, the surroundings resonated with the spirited chants of “Jo Bole So Nihal… Sat Sri Akal!” The sangat warmly and respectfully welcomed this gesture by the Chief Minister. In Sikh tradition, performing ‘Palki Seva’ holds an exceptionally high spiritual value, symbolizing humility, devotion, and complete surrender to the Guru’s teachings.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was carried with utmost reverence to the main stage, where the sangat gathered for the Ardas, followed by the ceremonial ‘Parkash.’ The entire Darbar Hall was filled with an atmosphere of serenity, devotion, and spiritual grace. The soulful rendition of Gurbani by various Raagi Jathas added to the sacred ambience, spreading the divine message of the Guru across the venue.
The chief programme also featured special presentations based on the unparalleled sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who gave his life to protect religious freedom and uphold human rights. Scholars and spiritual leaders shared valuable insights on the Guru’s life, his stand for the Kashmiri Pandits, and his role as the “Hind Di Chadar.”
Children and youth presented cultural and spiritual performances inspired by the teachings and legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Exhibition stalls displayed rare historical depictions, artwork, and documented accounts related to the Guru’s life and martyrdom, attracting deep interest from the attendees.
The ceremony in Kurukshetra was not only an occasion to honour the Guru’s supreme sacrifice but also a reminder that standing for justice, truth, and religious freedom is the true tribute to his legacy. The event concluded with a sense of devotion, unity, and renewed commitment to living by the Guru’s teachings, leaving every devotee spiritually enriched.
