Chandigarh With the efforts of Haryana Transport Minister Sh. Anil Vij, administrative approval has been granted for an amount of approximately ₹11.49 crore for the establishment of a Driving Training & Research Institute (IDTR) and an Automated Vehicle Testing Station (ATS) at Shahpur in Ambala Cantonment.

Sh. Vij stated that following the approval of funds, the work for setting up the Driving Training & Research Institute and the Automated Vehicle Testing Station will soon begin on about 13 acres and 5 kanal-4 marla of land in Shahpur.

The Transport Minister said that the establishment of these two institutions will create employment opportunities for hundreds of people, both directly and indirectly. He added that through this institute, thousands of youth from nearby districts will be trained, making them more skilled and employable. Additionally, the Automated Vehicle Testing Station will be capable of testing the fitness of around 300 vehicles per week.

Sh. Anil Vij said that his objective is to make transport services in Haryana more efficient and convenient. In this direction, efforts are being continuously made to provide technologically advanced services to the people.

It is noteworthy that Driving Training & Research Institutes (IDTRs) are specialized centers established by the government to promote road safety and impart modern driving skills. Their key features include scientific training, advanced simulators, automated driving tracks, and comprehensive courses for different types of vehicles (light and heavy). These institutes focus on promoting safe driving practices and reducing road accidents.

At Automated Vehicle Testing Stations, vehicle fitness is tested through automated machines. The fitness certificate issued after testing is valid across the country. These stations help reduce road accidents by ensuring that only technically fit vehicles are allowed on the roads, as unfit vehicles are not issued fitness certificates. The testing process involves detailed examination of all technical aspects of vehicles.
