Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora Challenges ED Arrest and 7-Day Remand in High Court

May 12, 2026 01:29 PM

Chandigarh; Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora has challenged his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Arora filed a petition before the High Court seeking relief against the ED action, and the matter is expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday afternoon.

The ED had raided Arora’s government residence in Chandigarh on Saturday before arresting him later in the evening. Following the arrest, he was produced the same night before a special PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court in Gurugram. After hearing the ED’s arguments, the court sent Arora to seven days of ED remand till May 16.

The case is linked to an alleged fake GST billing and money laundering racket involving transactions worth more than ₹100 crore. According to the ED, Arora’s company, Hampton Sky Realty Limited, allegedly showed purchases of mobile phones from several fake firms based in Delhi that reportedly existed only on paper.

Investigators claim that fake invoices were used to fraudulently obtain Input Tax Credit (ITC) and GST refunds amounting to crores of rupees. The ED has also raised suspicions of “round-tripping,” alleging that fake exports of mobile phones were used as a cover to route illegal money back into India from countries such as the UAE.

According to the agency, a fresh FIR registered on May 5, 2026, contains evidence of suspicious financial transactions and alleged collusion with bogus suppliers.
