Mohali: Misl Satluj Party president Ajaypal Singh Brar has strongly condemned the alleged torture of a sikh youth by the Punjab Police in Sheron village of Sunam and demanded that the Punjab Government immediately dismiss the police officials allegedly responsible in the matter and take strict legal action against them.
Ajaypal Singh Brar said that sikh youth Mohanjit Singh of Sheron village in Sunam showing a black flag peacefully from the roof of his house to the Chief Minister of Punjab is his democratic right. He said that peacefully expressing opposition to any government or political leader is not a crime in a democracy.
He said, “If a citizen peacefully showing a black flag is met with police torture, it is not merely an attack on the rights of an individual, but also raises serious questions about democracy and the rule of law in Punjab.”
Brar alleged that the local DSP illegally tortured the Sikh youth and desecrated his Kakars. He said that any incident of disrespect towards the Kakars of a Sikh deeply hurts the religious sentiments of the sikh community and cannot be taken lightly under any circumstances.
He told the Punjab Government in clear terms, “The police uniform does not give any officer the right to crush the democratic and religious rights of a citizen. If any police officer has misused his position to torture a Sikh youth and desecrate his Kakars, he should be immediately dismissed and awarded strict punishment according to law.”
Ajaypal Singh Brar said that he has also demanded from the Sangrur police chief that an impartial inquiry be conducted into the DSP and all other police officials responsible for allegedly torturing the Sikh youth and desecrating his Kakars.
Ajaypal Singh Brar said, “The law in Punjab should be equal for everyone. The job of the police is to protect the people, not to crush their rights. We warn the Punjab Government that any attempt to suppress this matter or protect the guilty officials will not be tolerated.”
He said that the Misl Satluj Party stands with the victim youth and his family and will continue to raise its voice until justice is delivered in the matter. He demanded that the Punjab Government order an impartial and time-bound investigation into the matter, immediately register an FIR and take appropriate legal action against the guilty police officials, and ensure justice for the victim youth.
