Chandigarh: In a significant move to bolster the state’s fight against drug abuse, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that the government will soon recruit 200 Sociology professionals.
The newly recruited Sociologists will play a key role in spreading awareness about drug addiction across the state, Cheema said.He also directed the Health Department to expedite efforts toward improving staffing in government hospitals and to provide updated vacancy data.
Speaking about the government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, Cheema revealed that 16,348 arrests have been made so far, and authorities have seized over ₹11 crore worth of drug money.
"Our government is taking critical steps to strengthen de-addiction centers and ensure effective rehabilitation services," he added.
The recruitment drive and renewed focus on healthcare staffing come as part of the AAP government's broader strategy to combat drug abuse and improve public health infrastructure in Punjab.
