Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has adopted a firm stance to further strengthen law and order in the state, directing senior police officials that no laxity will be tolerated in the fight against drugs and organised crime. Chairing a high-level review meeting with Police Commissioners, IGs, DIGs and SSPs on Thursday, the Chief Minister reiterated that the campaigns ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ and ‘Gangsteraan Te Vaar’ remain the top priorities of the state government and must culminate in the complete eradication of these evils.
Emphasising the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of common citizens, CM Mann instructed officers to deliver visible results on the ground, enhance coordination and ensure strict accountability. He said Punjab Police has a glorious legacy and must rise to the occasion with determination to tackle the current challenges.
The Chief Minister noted that with strong public support, both flagship drives are progressing effectively and have yielded encouraging results so far. However, he stressed that the time has come to deliver a final and decisive blow to these social menaces. CM Mann made it clear that he would personally monitor the progress of the campaigns on a daily basis. Officers delivering outstanding performance will be rewarded, while any negligence will invite strict accountability.
He further stated that there is no shortage of funds to equip Punjab Police with modern technology, adequate manpower and upgraded infrastructure. Directing a statewide review of arms licences, the Chief Minister said any licence found misused must be cancelled immediately.
Highlighting the importance of preventing youth from falling into the trap of drugs and crime, CM Mann underlined the need to expand employment opportunities, strengthen education and launch large-scale career counselling programmes, especially in drug-affected and vulnerable areas. He also called for focused efforts to reduce school dropout rates in such regions.
Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, DGP Gaurav Yadav and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
